I'm sure there are many out there that are already aware of this, but since I am slow on the uptake I just found out about this last week. My new favorite site is tbs.com. You can watch old episodes of The Office, Seinfeld, Friends....you name it, they have it. (And since I'm such a cheap skate and refuse to buy the box sets of all of the shows that we like, this is the perfect solution!) So I went there a few times to watch The Office and was watching on the tiny screen they show it on and I was distracted by this large, red "PANIC" button right by the movie screen. I was completely curious, so I clicked on it. Much to my surprise it actually worked! Immediately my internet window disappeared and a fake excel file with a lot of stats on laughter and what not appeared on my screen. Suddenly everything starting coming together and making sense. Have you ever been on the phone with some sort of help line or tech support and it takes over a half an hour or so to even talk to someone?! Well, here is why. They had to wait until either their episode was over, or their boss walked by and they had to look busy so they pushed the "PANIC" button and took a customer call!! The fact that they built in this button to deceive the common workplace boss is both hilarious and sad. Hilarious because, well, the decay of western civilization as we know it is, needless to say, funny. And sad because honestly, how lazy can we get that we are watching TV at work behind our boss' back at the expense of common decency and customer service?? I'm not sure which intrigues me more....the funniness of it, or the sadness of it. But either way, it adds that extra element of entertainment when I go there to watch. Could someone be getting busted for watching at work this very minute?? Man, I wish I could be there for that! Anyway, check it out. It's pretty funny.
